Compare the retail experience
| Option | Who runs the session | Main requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Tablet | An advisor guides the shopper | Staff time and repeatable lighting |
| Kiosk | The shopper follows the journey independently | Mounting, accessibility and session reset |
| QR code | The shopper uses their own phone | Connectivity and a clear result handoff |
Tablet: a conversation led by an advisor
One advisor with an agreed tablet is an operationally simple starting point. Staff help with the photo and discuss suggestions. Include consultation time, training, charging and device cleaning in the budget.
Kiosk: more independence, more requirements
A kiosk needs space, an accessible screen, secure mounting and a clear session start and end. Test inactivity, return to the welcome screen and connection loss. Hardware and onsite support add ownership costs.
QR: the shopper’s own phone
A QR code avoids a shared camera and makes it easier to keep the result. It requires a connected phone and an understandable destination. Staff may still need to help with camera permissions and photo guidance.
An example session in one store
The advisor explains the purpose and handling of the photo. The shopper takes it under agreed lighting. They review the palette and products available at that location. The shopper gets the agreed way to revisit the result, and the device ends the session and clears their view.
- Test lighting at different times of day.
- Check screen and instruction accessibility for different needs.
- Assign ownership for devices, connectivity and catalogue freshness.
- Measure abandoned sessions and occasions requiring assistance.
